Join a company, work hard, deliver great results, move up the ladder — wouldn’t it be nice if advancing your career were this simple?

We are often obsessed with finding the right growth model for our companies. We make sure every marketing touch point is strategically linked. We care about minimizing friction and keeping the human element in the customer experience.

But when it comes to our own careers, we let luck and intuition craft our narrative.

What if you treat yourself with the same obsession and grow your career like you grow a product or business?

For many products, high customer retention sets off a self-reinforcing cycle — it drives acquisition, improves monetization and builds a competitive edge.

Likewise for your career, retaining in a company while showing progression in your ability (be it through new skill development, product rotation or promotion), compounds like interest to amazing returns.

In the long term, your word-of-mouth coefficient increases and expands outside of your own company, as referral is a powerful acquisition channel for new opportunities and your own personal brand.

All in all, every great product should have a moat, and your career is no different.
